Fees at Surrey Counselling & Mediation
(formerly Relate Mid and East surrey)

Surrey Counselling & Mediation is a registered charity.
We don’t make a profit from our services – the fees we charge simply help cover the cost of providing high-quality counselling and mediation. This allows us to support as many people as possible.

Worried about cost?
We never want finances to be a barrier to getting support. That’s why we offer a bursary scheme for those who may struggle to afford our standard fees. If you think you might need help with the cost, just let us know – we’re happy to talk it through with you, confidentially and without judgement.

Mediation

Your First Step: The MIAM

The first meeting is called a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM). You can attend this meeting on your own or with the other person involved. During the MIAM, we’ll explain what mediation involves, discuss what needs to be resolved, and help you think about your options for moving forward. After this meeting, you can decide whether mediation is the right path for you.

Please note: attending a MIAM is a legal requirement before applying to take a case to court (unless you are exempt).

  • Mediation Information & Assessment meeting (MIAM) £120 per person
  • Further joint mediation sessions (1.5 hours) Cost per person

This is based on annual income per person and adjusted according to a sliding scale.. Where joint net assets are over £1m (excluding pensions) Band 4 fee is applied.

  • Band 1 - Annual income < £29,999 £175
  • Band 2- Annual income £30,000-£49,999 £200
  • Band 3 - Annual income £50,000-£74,999 £220
  • Band 4- Annual income >£75,000 £240
  • Memorandum of understanding (MOU half each person’s mediation fee
  • Open Financial Statement (OFS) half each person’s mediation fee
  • Parenting Plan £60 per parent
  • Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) Fee for a session with a child  - £50 per parent

We offer children the chance to speak privately with a mediator about how family changes are affecting them. This can help children express their feelings and support parents in making informed decisions. Child-Inclusive Mediation (CIM) is discussed during each parent's MIAM, and both parents must give consent before a child is invited to take part. Feedback from the child is shared with parents only with the child’s agreement, unless there are concerns about risk of harm.
